Service Description

Katara is an online platform that helps job seekers create professional profiles and allows teams to discover and connect with potential candidates.

When you use Katara, you may submit, upload, or share information such as your profile details, resume, messages, and other content (“User Content”). You are responsible for the User Content you provide and for ensuring it is accurate and lawful.

You retain ownership of your User Content. By using Katara, you grant us a limited license to host, store, and display your content solely for the purpose of operating, improving, and providing the Service.

We may also provide content such as guides, templates, and other informational materials to help you use the Service (“Katara Content”). This content belongs to Katara or its licensors and may not be reused without permission.

You do not receive access to the underlying software, source code, or systems that power Katara. We only provide access to the hosted application through our website and services.

You agree not to misuse Katara or use it for unlawful or harmful activity.

• Provide false or misleading information
• Scrape or copy data without permission
• Access accounts or data that do not belong to you
• Interfere with the platform’s security or operation
• Spam or abuse other users

Katara uses third-party services such as authentication, hosting, email, analytics, and payments to operate the platform. These services have their own terms and privacy policies, which apply when you use them.

Calendar Connections

You may connect a Google or Microsoft calendar to schedule interviews. By connecting a calendar, you authorise Katara to read your free and busy times and to create interview events on your behalf, as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of those calendars remains subject to Google’s or Microsoft’s own terms. You can disconnect a calendar at any time from your settings.

Integrations are provided as a convenience. We are not responsible for the availability of third-party services or for changes those providers make to their platforms.

Katara is free for engineers. Teams pay a subscription to search the talent pool, message candidates, and use the hiring pipeline. Current prices and what each plan includes are published on our pricing page.

Billing and Renewal

Subscriptions are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, and renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for your plan until you cancel. Team plans are priced by seat tier; if you add seats that move you into a higher tier during a billing period, you are charged the prorated difference for the rest of that period.

All payments are processed by Stripe. Checkout and billing management take place on Stripe-hosted pages, and we do not store full payment card details. Prices exclude taxes unless stated otherwise; any applicable VAT or sales tax is added at checkout.

Cancellation

You can cancel at any time from your billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then. We do not refund the unused part of a billing period.

Refunds

If you were charged in error or charged twice, contact us within 30 days of the charge and we will refund it. Otherwise payments are non-refundable except where the law requires a refund.

Price Changes

We may change our prices. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before a price change applies to your subscription, and you may cancel before it takes effect.

Katara is designed to help teams discover qualified candidates. By creating a profile, you understand that certain information from your profile may be made available to teams through the Service, depending on your visibility settings and the features you choose to enable.

You are responsible for the information you include in your profile. Please do not include confidential or sensitive information that you do not want shared with potential teams.

You may update or remove your profile information at any time through your account settings. Changes you make may not immediately be reflected in cached copies or information previously viewed by teams.

Teams may use information available through Katara solely for legitimate recruitment and hiring purposes. They may not copy, sell, scrape, or use candidate information for marketing, unsolicited communications, or any other unauthorized purpose.

We reserve the right to limit profile visibility, remove profiles, or suspend accounts where we believe these Terms have been violated or to protect the safety and integrity of the platform.

Job Posts and Careers Pages

Teams may publish job openings on a careers page hosted by Katara. You are responsible for the content of your job posts. Each post must describe a genuine, currently open role, must not discriminate unlawfully, and must comply with the employment and pay transparency laws that apply where the role is offered, including any requirement to state a salary range. We may remove posts that we believe breach these Terms.

Applicant and Candidate Data

Information you collect about applicants and candidates through Katara, including applications, CVs, screening answers, notes, interview feedback, and messages, is collected by you as the controller of that information. Katara processes it on your behalf to provide the Service. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to collect it, for telling applicants how you use it, and for responding to their requests to access, correct, or delete it. A data processing agreement is available on request.

You agree to use applicant and candidate information only to fill roles on your team, and not to:

• Export, copy, or share it outside your team except as needed for the hiring process
• Use it for marketing, lead generation, or any purpose unrelated to hiring
• Contact candidates who have asked not to be contacted
• Retain it longer than you need it for the hiring process or than the law allows

Team Members

The person who creates a team account is responsible for the people they invite to it. Each seat is for one named person and may not be shared. When a team account is closed, we delete the team’s applicant and candidate data after a short grace period, unless the law requires us to keep it.

These Terms remain in effect while you use Katara.

You may stop using Katara at any time and delete your account.

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or misuse the platform.

Katara is provided “as is” and “as available.”

We do not guarantee uninterrupted service or that users will achieve specific hiring or job outcomes.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Katara is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid to Katara in the past 12 months (if any).

You agree to hold Katara harmless from claims or damages arising from your use of the service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of Katara means you accept the updated Terms.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Zambia. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Katara will be brought in the courts of Zambia, except that consumers in the European Union or the United Kingdom may rely on the mandatory consumer protections and courts of the country where they live.

Assignment

We may transfer these Terms, and the accounts and data covered by them, to a company formed to operate Katara. If that happens, the new operator takes on our obligations under these Terms and our Privacy Policy without any change to your rights, and we will let you know by updating these Terms and, where appropriate, by email. You may not transfer your account or these Terms to anyone else without our consent.
