Application questions

Add your own questions to a job's application form on your careers page and read the answers.

Every job on your careers page has an application form. It always asks for the basics, and you can add your own questions for each job. Candidates answer them when they apply, and you read the answers in the pipeline.

Adding questions to a job

Only owners and admins can manage application questions, and your team needs an active subscription.

  1. Open the job.
  2. Open the job's menu and choose Application questions.
  3. Click Add question.
  4. Type the question, for example "Why do you want to work here?".
  5. Choose a question type (see below).
  6. Leave Required on if candidates must answer, or turn it off to make the question optional. New questions start as required.
  7. Click Add.
  8. Click Done when you've finished.

Question types

TypeWhat the candidate sees
Short answerA single-line text box.
Long answerA larger text box, limited to 500 characters, with a character counter.
Yes / NoTwo options, Yes and No.
Multiple choiceA list of options where the candidate picks one.

For Multiple choice, type each option and click + Add option for more. A multiple choice question needs at least two options.

Editing, reordering and deleting

  • To edit a question, click its pencil icon, make your changes and click Save.
  • To change the order, drag a question by its handle. Candidates see the questions in this order.
  • To delete a question, click its bin icon and confirm. It's removed from the careers page straight away, and answers candidates already gave to it are deleted too.

What the application form asks

Every form on your careers page starts with the same fields:

  • First name, Last name and Email, which are required.
  • Phone number and LinkedIn profile, which are optional.
  • Resume, an optional upload. It accepts PDF, DOC or DOCX files up to 10MB.

Your questions come next, with required ones marked by an asterisk. At the end, the candidate must tick a box agreeing that your team and Katara may process their application under the privacy policy. They can also tick a box to keep their details on file for two years so you can contact them about future roles.

The Apply button stays disabled until the candidate has filled in their name and email, answered every required question and agreed to the privacy policy.

Reading the answers

  1. Open the job and click the candidate.
  2. Go to the Answers tab.

Each question appears with the candidate's answer. Optional questions they skipped show No answer. If there are no answers, for example because the candidate didn't apply through your careers page, you'll see No application answers yet.
