What happens when you go invisible

How the Invisible status hides your profile from recruiters, and what stays in place when you use it.

Invisible is the most private search status on Katara. It takes your profile out of circulation so recruiters can't find or open it. It does not undo things you have already started, such as applications you have sent. This article explains what changes and what stays the same.

Turning it on

  1. Open the menu under your avatar and choose Settings.
  2. Go to Profile and scroll to Search Preference.
  3. Select Invisible.
  4. Click Update.

To come back, follow the same steps and pick any other status. Your profile reappears as soon as you save.

What recruiters lose

While you are invisible:

  • You don't appear when recruiters browse or filter profiles.
  • You don't appear when a team sources candidates for a job.
  • If a recruiter had bookmarked you, you drop out of their bookmarks list.
  • If a recruiter opens a link to your profile, Katara sends them back with the message "This candidate has hidden their profile".
  • When a team imports a pipeline from another tool, Katara won't match an imported candidate to your profile by email address.

What stays in place

Going invisible hides your profile page. It does not pull you out of hiring processes you are already part of.

  • Applications you have made stay in the team's pipeline. The team keeps your application, your answers and its stage, and can keep moving you through their process.
  • Recruiters still see your name on your application. Instead of a link to your profile, they see Profile hidden by candidate. Hovering over your card tells them: "This candidate has hidden their profile, so it can't be opened from here."
  • Interviews and offers carry on. Interview pages and offers are separate from your profile, so you can still confirm interviews and respond to offers.
  • Your own view doesn't change. You can still open your profile, edit it, and use your dashboard as normal.

Invisible or hidden companies?

Invisible hides you from everyone. If you only want to keep away from one or two companies, such as your current employer, use Hidden companies instead.

  1. Go to Settings and choose Hidden companies.
  2. Under Hide your profile from a company, search for a company, or type its website or a work email address.
  3. Click Hide.

Recruiters from those companies can't find your profile, see it in search, or message you. Conversations you already have stay open. Everyone else can still find you with whatever search status you have set.

When to use it

Invisible works well when you have accepted a job and want to stop new approaches, or when you want a break from recruiter messages for a while. If you would still welcome the right role, Not looking keeps you findable while telling recruiters to reach out only with a strong match. See Choosing your search status to compare the options.
