Scorecards and evaluations

Write structured feedback on a candidate, see who still owes a scorecard, and read your team's verdicts.

An evaluation is your team's written verdict on a candidate at a stage of the pipeline. Each one has star ratings against a set of criteria, an overall recommendation and optional notes. Katara also tracks scorecards owed after an interview, so you can see whose feedback is still missing.

Writing an evaluation

  1. Open the job and click a candidate to open their details.
  2. Go to the Evaluations tab.
  3. Click New Evaluation.
  4. Check the Evaluation stage. It starts on the candidate's current stage, and you can change it.
  5. Under Scorecard Ratings, give each criterion between one and five stars.
  6. Choose an Overall recommendation: Strong Hire, Hire, No Hire or Strong No Hire.
  7. Add any Notes, then click Submit Evaluation.

To change an evaluation later, click the pencil icon on it, make your changes and click Update Evaluation.

Which criteria you rate

If the job uses an interview template, the criteria come from that template's scorecard. Katara picks the template stage whose name matches the evaluation stage. If none matches, it uses the template's first stage.

If the job has no interview template, or the matching stage has no scorecard criteria, you rate these defaults:

  • Technical Skills
  • Communication
  • Culture Fit
  • Problem Solving
  • Relevant Experience

You set up scorecard criteria under Interview templates in your team settings.

Who is asked for a scorecard

When an interview ends, every interviewer on it owes a scorecard until they submit one. Interviews that were cancelled or marked as a no-show don't count. Each interviewer can submit one scorecard per interview.

A day after the interview ends, anyone who still hasn't submitted gets a reminder by email. They also get a push notification if they have turned push notifications on.

On the candidate's Evaluations tab, each interview with missing feedback shows Scorecard due for the interview on its date, followed by Waiting on and the names still outstanding. If you are one of those people, a Write scorecard button opens a scorecard already linked to that interview. The interview's own page also lists them under Waiting on scorecards from.

Scorecards due on the board

You can spot missing feedback without opening each candidate:

  • Candidate cards show a tag such as 1 scorecard due or 3 scorecards due.
  • Stage columns show a badge such as 2 due next to the candidate count. Hover over it to see Scorecards still owed in this stage.

The tags and badges clear once every interviewer has submitted.

Who can write and edit evaluations

  • Owners and admins, and hiring managers assigned to the job, can write a New Evaluation for any candidate and edit any evaluation on the job.
  • Anyone who was an interviewer on one of the candidate's interviews can submit a scorecard for that candidate.
  • You can always edit evaluations you wrote yourself.

Writing and editing evaluations needs an active team subscription.

Reading evaluations

Each evaluation on the Evaluations tab shows the stage, the recommendation as a coloured badge, the date it was written, the star ratings and any notes. If nobody has written one yet, you'll see No evaluations yet.
